Future Kite Sailing Yachts - Eco Friendly

What will look like the pleasure boats of the future? As technology improves, and fuel costs rise up, it's unlikely that the boats cruising the waters in 40 to 80 years will look much like they do today.

Imagine someone from 1908 could see today's roller-reefing, stainless-and-plastic, diesel-powered “sailing” yachts, bristling with antennas, solar panels, water-makers and such.

The Kite Sailing Kitano Yacht, introduces kite sailing technology to the leisure sailing yacht class and benefits from the many advantages that technology has to offer. One of them being the constant and stronger wind speeds found at higher altitudes.

Compared to a normal sail the kite has less surface area but still generates enough force so that even a gentle breeze lifts the hull to a planing speed. Equipped with a hydraulically operated centerboard, even sailing in shallow water and littorals are possible without risk.

The Yacht itself can house up to 8 passengers with the latest in luxury. On top of that, it’s totally green so even hiphuggers can step off land once in awhile.

That kite might get in the way under some conditions, but even if it weren't the sole source of locomotion, on windy days it would still be highly efficient to augment engine power with such a high-flying sail. We think a kite sail like this should be packed on board all vessels, just in case a hapless captain runs out of gas. The Kite Sailing Yacht Kitano doesn't exist yet, but aren't these some spectacular renderings?
